SOLOS III: JUSTIN

About the Event
"How do you make music when nobody else can hear it?
After months of no concerts, rehearsals or music to practise in 2020, I found a way to create music that was tangible outside of my apartment. I began work on a transcription for solo viola of Bach's groundbreaking Chromatic Fantasy. This spirit of being free and creative in spite of limitations is the inspiration for a program of music that encourages the performer to take interpretative risks, and breaks free of conventions in music such as notation, rhythm, harmony, and sound.
Just weeks prior to lockdown commencing early last year, I moved interstate and started a new job. On my own, in an unfamiliar city and with no work, I took up a new hobby. Once I was allowed outside, I set out to discover my surroundings on two wheels. I combine the musical aspects of this performance with footage of my cycling adventures in urban Adelaide and on the steep and winding roads of the Adelaide Hills region."
